While the TK Foundation's message is more direct, Milo Shapiro uses improvisational theatre to get across the message of nonviolence. His company, IMPROVentures, has visited schools in the National City, Poway, and Encinitas school districts, showing kids through its "KIDding Around" program that they can avoid conflict by communication with rather than hurting one another.
The children also learn about theater, props and scripts, and how to read nonverbal clues. "Children learn that the choices they make in life affect the stories of their life," Shapiro says about his program's focus.
Let's hope our children create real-life stories where no one has to hear again, "This isn't supposed to happen here."
